The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) is in the hospital with Legionnaires’ disease. The man will summon his loved ones to his bedside to say a final goodbye.
It sounds like he’s going to die and losing him could profoundly change Claire Grace Newman (Hayley Erin). Let’s get started and talk about this storyline possibility.
Fans watched with concern as Cole returned to Genoa City and seemed to struggle with a bad cough. Then, he struggled to catch his breath and was exhausted all the time. Instead of getting better, he seemed to get worse. Finally, he was diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, a form of pneumonia.
In a preview clip for the week of June 30, 2025, Cole summons Claire and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) to his hospital bed.
The patient is thankful that they came in time. That is when Claire asks, “In time for what?” That is when Cole replies, “Before it’s too late.” So, it sounds like Cole will die, which will have a really massive impact on Claire.
While Cole dies, Claire will need comfort. Unfortunately, Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) is at Aristotle Dumas aka Cane Asbhy’s (Billy Flynn) party in Nice. Kyle has tried to get service so he can reach Claire, but has been unsuccessful.
Chances are that Kyle will still be unreachable when Claire learns that Cole has died. Claire could lean on Holden Novak (Nathan Owens), especially since he just helped her through a serious panic attack.
Now, let’s talk about how Claire could change after Cole’s death. Remember, Claire didn’t grow up with her parents, so she’s only had a tiny bit of real bonding time with Cole.
Since fans already saw Claire have one massive panic attack, could she have another? Will they become more serious and more frequent?
Another possibility is that Claire will feel haunted. Maybe not by Cole, but by visions of Jordan (Colleen Zenk). After all, it was because of Jordan that Claire was robbed of growing up with Cole and Victoria.
There is also the chance that Claire could turn sinister. She might feel that she’s done all the right things, but still lost her dad. Claire could feel jealous over other girls or women having their fathers in their lives.
If Kyle sleeps with Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) in Nice as predicted, then that will be another bombshell for Claire. To process both her father’s death and her boyfriend’s betrayal is a lot. Maybe too much for sweet, reformed Claire.
