The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Billy Flynn Explains Cane’s “Rebrand” & New Accent

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that fans are talking about the finale of the Aristotle Dumas/Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) mystery. Billy Flynn is a recast Cane, taking over from Daniel Goddard.

Goddard starred as Cane from 2007 until his exit in 2019 and is currently playing Professor Henry “Hank” Dalton on ABC’s General Hospital.

Stepping into a role that fans associate with another actor is always a challenge. Sometimes recasts are brilliant, and sometimes fans revolt. Flynn talked to TV Insider about his experience so far and we have all of the juicy details for you here!

Billy Flynn Is the New Cane

Flynn plans to make the role his own and he’s off to a good start. In the beginning Flynn had no idea he was auditioning as a Cane recast. When he found out he immediately started researching the role with an emphasis on Cane’s relationship to Lily Winters (Christel Khalil).

Thus far Flynn has been welcomed by fans although they have noted that unlike Goddard, Flynn has an American accent. Speaking about this he said “Essentially, we’re going to rebrand it a bit, so they have a closer age range, and I don’t have a sexy accent. I can’t replicate it, so I’m going to do my thing.”

Billy Flynn Explains His Take on Cane

Flynn also praised his predecessor: “What Daniel did was amazing — he was great as Cane — and obviously, the relationship that Cane and Lily had is a testament to their work.” It almost sounds as if Cane and Lily will be the focus going forward, doesn’t it?

Flynn hinted about this dynamic, saying that Lily was Cane’s “one true love” and that his Gatsby-inspired Dumas bash in Nice was a way to prove himself worthy of her.

Will Cane Win Back Lily?

Lily’s reaction upon seeing Cane for the first time is one of panic. She had no idea that Dumas was actually Cane, although Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) did!
