‘Suits’ was the number one show on Netflix for several weeks when it dropped on the platform roughly two years ago. The fan interest once it hit streaming was so huge that anyone can predict that sooner or later, something’s going to be done to bring it back in some way.
This could happen in the form of a spinoff, a reboot, and, I think the one the fans would have most preferred, a continuation.
However, when series creator Aaron Korsh was given the go ahead to create, he opted to move the show’s location to LA and focus it on entertainment lawyer Ted Black, hence a spinoff.
Sadly, this spinoff only lasted one season, before being axed by NBC in one of the cruelest ways ever (they didn’t even allow it to air its finale episode before releasing the news).
But really, what caused such a promising little show – led by ‘Arrow’s’ Stephen Amell – to meet such an unfulfilling end?
Unlike its predecessor that ran for a total of nine fantastic seasons, ‘Suits: LA’ is off to an early grave. Why is that?
“Suits: LA had a very short run, but it really has not resonated [with audiences in] the way we thought it would,” NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy Jeff Bader told reporters during a press conference on Saturday, May 10. “There can be many, many reasons why it hasn’t resonated, but it’s just not showing the potential to grow for us in the future, unfortunately. Those are the decisions we had to make.”
“We had to look at the performance of the shows, both on linear and on digital,” said Bader. “We had to see the ones that looked like they had growth potential in the future.
We’re looking at how stable they are in their linear performance, how stable they are on digital which ones are growing, which ones are declining. And we had to make some hard decisions.”
Reacting to the news, one fan wrote, “I’m sad cause I really enjoyed Suits LA. The look the style the characters especially Stuart and Eddie who were standouts.
I wanted to see Stuart and Ted reconcile and become this power firm once again. Here’s to hoping USA who created the original Suits gets to continue one of my favorite shows.”
Another angrily proclaimed, “Maybe I’ll just take a page out of NBC’s playbook and just stop watching their shows.”
