General Hospital Spoilers: John J. York Being Gentle With His Return

Of course, we are talking about John J. York, who is best known for his role as Mac on the hit ABC soap. The actor was diagnosed with two forms of cancer back in 2023 – myelodysplastic syndrome and smoldering multiple myeloma.

While fans have been seeing more of him on the canvas, they also can’t help but wonder what’s in store with his character and why Mac might be doing some things that have been out of character, too.

However, during one of the most recent episodes of the soap, a lot of fans were quite confused over Flea campaigning against Sonny by invoking Mac’s name and by saying that he’s concerned about Laura’s political future.

A lot of people couldn’t help but scratch their heads over it, as they’ve never heard Mac speak like that before. Then again, Mac really hasn’t been on screen that much lately and some people think it’s because the writers are being very gentle with his return.

After all, there is only so much that he can take after dealing with his health battle all of last year. Then again, a lot of fans are also very grateful to even be seeing him on the small screen as things could have easily taken a turn for the worst with his myelodysplastic syndrome. Thankfully, it didn’t.

General Hospital Spoilers: What’s Next For Mac In Port Charles?

Back in 2024, John opened up about his return to General Hospital. The actor also said that if he hadn’t already had ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease back when he was a teenager, his outcome would have looked totally different this time around.

John said that at one point he had a heart-to-heart discussion with his doctor.

He recalled telling his doctor, “’How long would I have if I did nothing?’  And he said, ‘Three to five years.’ And I was like, ‘Three to five years? Are you crazy? I feel fantastic.’”
