It looks like someone might be on life support very soon here. According to the latest reports, it looks like General Hospital has taken a tumble in the ratings department.
In fact, things are so bad that a lot of longtime viewers and critics are arguing that the show’s writers are doing nothing to fix the supposedly ‘horrible’ storylines that are making more people want to tune out rather than tune in.
Per the latest numbers, General Hospital is at the bottom of the barrel for two key demographics. For women between the ages of 25-54, The Young and the Restless tops the carts in viewership, followed by The Bold and the Beautiful, newcomer Beyond The Gates and then General Hospital.
For the week between March 3-7, General Hospital only saw about 203,00 viewers check in. It wasn’t too long ago that over 500,000 viewers were watching the show per week. It seems like less and less people are tuning in each week and that’s because they just don’t find any of the current storylines engaging enough for them to be invested in.
The Young and the Restless, meanwhile, is holding steady at 302,000 viewers per week.
Now, whether or not these less than desirable numbers are going to prompt the writers of the show to make any changes remains to be seen, but it seems like it’s almost doubtful that anything will change.
After all, a lot of General Hospital fans made it pretty clear that they have been none too pleased with all the cast changes lately and the fact that the producers of the show fired Kelly Monaco late last summer. Many would agree that things just haven’t been the same since then.

I'm pleased to see I'm not the only one who's noticed how crappy GH storyline have become. The latest, Joss, a WSB agent.....give me a break! I've watched GH since 1979 and I only tune in once a week now. I dont even watch the full episode, it's that bad. Please do something!
Crappy, unbelievable, and cruel; everyone acting out of character, nobody is happy, important characters missing with no explanation. I’d swear they are writing it for earlier cancellation to replace it with a cheaper unscripted show.
They better start fixing these storylines or I will be turning away from GH as I have been a loyal fan since the beginning. They ruined Michael and Willow; this storyline about Drew is getting ridiculous - better start coming up with better lines or you will be losing alot of fans.
The writers need to work fast to fix this mess.
I think they should of done another spin on sonny and Carly instead of breaking them up. They should recast Spencer and bring him back. So far as the Drew and Willow thing it is s real turn off.
