General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) recently shared a different career path he’s taken-does this mean the door is closed at the ABC soap?

Fans are speculating after he revealed he took a part in a live theatre presentation that it means the door is closed for him to return to GH.

Chad Announced His Departure In November

Duell got his start as an actor in children’s shows in the late 2000s, including Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life on Deck. However, in 2010, he would make his big break into soaps with GH; Duell would play Michael Corinthos on the soap, having taken on the role from Drew Garrett.

In late November 2024, Duell announced he would leave the soap after nearly fifteen years; his final episode aired in January 2025.

As noted by Michael Fairman TV, when Duell originally announced his departure, he shared his interest in taking on new projects-in fact, the actor notably shared a new project. Duell is serving as a co-lead in an upcoming new stage play, Yum Yum at Annapolis, alongside actor Zach Mendez-Bruce Reisman serves as a director and writer for the play.

The Play Was Based On A True Story

The story is said to be based on the true friendship from 1939 between American playwright Eugene O’Neill and a sailor named Eddie, whom O’Neill hired to fix his front porch. It was on this porch that O’Neill wrote Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

Mendez will portray O’Neill, while Duell will take on the role of Eddie. Interestingly, these two actors make up the entire cast of the 90-minute play; production notes refer to the play as an “Acting Olympics” for the performers. The announcement was made in an Instagram post by Stoneypoint Entertainment and the two lead actors.

The caption mentioned, “Rehearsals start with a table read next week, followed by a public, full-tech and costumed concert reading in April at the famous @elportaltheatre in NoHo, Los Angeles.

Fans Took To Social Media Over The New Opportunity

This marks the beginning of a journey to New York, where an Off-Off Broadway run is scheduled for late fall-many fans expressed their joy in the comments about Duell’s return to acting.

One fan commented, “Congrats Chad – I knew you wanted to showcase your acting skills! Bravo! You’ll be fantastic, but we really need you back on GH too! You are missed.” Additionally, Duell’s former co-star Cameron Mathison added some applause emojis in the comments.

As Duell continues his acting career, some fans are curious if he will return to GH soon. It was previously confirmed that there are no current plans to recast his character, indicating that a return for Duell is still possible.

Signs In The Show That The Door Is Open For Chad’s Return

Duell recently talked with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson on the Daily Drama podcast. He mentioned, “We’ll see what happens in the future, but right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I stifled myself.

Sometimes you have to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable to take a step, and that’s kind of what I have not allowed myself to do.” In a recent scene, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) updated Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) about a call with Michael, who is still in the burn unit in Baden-Baden. A photo of Chad as Michael was also visible in Carly’s office.
