Park Joeung-su, better known as Leeteuk, is one of the most popular singers, songwriters, actors and radio personalities in Korea.
While he’s enjoyed a life that is full of fame and success because of his many talents, there’s also a few chapters in his personal life that have been nothing but downright tragic.
It was so bad, that Leeteuk even got notable attention for it from the international press.
Leeteuk first became a household name in South Korea back in November 2005 when he joined the popular boy band, Super Junior. However, he began his career as a television presenter on several different music shows.
However, in 2007 and two months after Super Junior released their first single, Leeteuk along with two managers were seriously injured in a car accident. They were on a highway when the front left tire burst while the driver was switching lanes. The momentum caused the car to flip over.
It’s also been reported that Leeteuk suffered a great deal or physical and mental abuse at the hands of his own father. He reportedly beat him as a young boy and physically abused him as well.
Because his parents fought so much, Leeteuk ended up living in a poorhouse with very little to no food at his disposal. This turned out to be one of the most difficult times in his life. Leeteuk’s parents ended up filing for divorce in 1998.
If that weren’t enough, Leeteuk was serving in the military back in 2014 when he found out that his father had murdered his grandparents. The news made headlines both in South Korea and abroad.
HIs father then proceeded to hang himself after he had strangled Leeteuk’s grandparents to death. In his suicide note, he wrote, “I’m taking them with me.”
Despite everything that he has gone though, many of Leeteuk’s fans have noticed that he’s managed to keep up his spirits and a positive attitude for the sake of his mental health.
