Beyond The Gates

Beyond The Gates Is Pushing General Hospital Out The Door

It looks like Port Charles has finally gotten some serious competition. Of course, we are talking about General Hospital as there’s heavy speculation that the new soap in town is pusing them out the door. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.

Beyond The Gates Is Pushing General Hospital Out The Door

The new CBS soap, Beyond the Gates, made its debut on Monday, February 24th and let’s just say that it did not disappoint.

While some viewers believed that the first episode was off to a slow start, others said that Beyond The Gates has the potential to become a rating bonanza in a way that no other soap has so far managed to do.

Plus, Beyond The Gates airs during the same time as General Hospital, which is prompting a lot of people to make the switch.

Soap veteran Michele Van Jean serves as the head writer and showrunning for the show. Other executive producers will include Sheila Ducksworth, Leon Russell, Derrick Johnson and Kimberly Doebereine.

Of course, the internet certainly did have a lot to say about the matter.

Some fans of Beyond The Gates even wrote on social media, “Nope I’m good! It’s great! Let’s get into a pace and get to learn our cast! Familiarize ourselves with characters. Off to a great start!”

Another soap critic wrote, “People always complain and they are actively looking to do that. They are so scared of competition. Soaps always went head to head. The show is excellent. People need to give it a chance and look at the bigger picture.”

What’s Next For General Hospital?

And then there was this comment as well: “For anyone who might be even a little bit disappointed in the first episode, remember it’s day one, episode one. Exposition is necessary when establishing a new series, particularly with its first episode.”

“In primetime, this is called a pilot. I URGE everyone who might be skeptical to at least give the show all five days before passing judgment or critique, both good and bad.”

  • With the opportunity to watch both shows on their streaming service, I don't think BTG will push GH out the door. I watched GH, as always, but plan to watch BTG this weekend to see if I like it. There's room for both. Didn't DOOL come on at the same time as GH, before moving to Peacock? Didn't seem to hurt either one of them, then.

  • I watch General Hospital on a streaming service. Sometimes the show DRAGGGS out a storyline and I find myself skipping it altogether for weeks at a time. When I come back I find they haven't progressed very much with the storyline. Now I will have something else to watch until I'm interested again (lol)

  • I tried watching Beyond the Gates but could not get into the story line. I don't think GH has anything to worry about. I won't be watching any more episodes of BTG.

  • I watched the first episode. It was not that great IMO. I felt the acting didn’t feel authentic. Of course this is all new and I realize they are just getting the feel of their characters. Some actors were better than others and had less scenery chewing. I will of course give something new a chance. I will stream it while watching GH live at 2pm as always. It will always remain my favorite. Nor do I think BTG will leave GH in the ratings dust.

  • I've been a GH fan since grade school, watching on and off throughout the years. Will always be a fan and always watch GH

  • Um. Ok. Everyone needs to get in the GH line and shut up already! Just because a new soap has started (of which I haven't nor will I ever watch it), doesn't mean at all that General Hospital is going to be affected in any way, shape or form folks! General Hospital has been on television for 62 years now and, in my opinion, isn't going ANYWHERE for the next 62 years (I honestly don't see an end). So, those who choose to watch BTG, so that is there choice. I know what mine will ALWAYS be. PERIOD. Love GH FOREVER!!
