General Hospital News: Whatever Happened To Gina Tognoni?

The last time that fans saw Gina on the small screen, she played Phyllis Summers on The Young and the Restless. Unfortunately, she was replaced by incoming actress Michelle Stafford. 

Michelle’s General Hospital role as Nina Reeves was given to Cynthia Watros. Yet, there are some fans out there who think Gina should come back to Port Charles. That, or she should have been given the role as Carly Corinthos soon after Tamara Braun left GH. 

That would have been wild, right? If she can’t play Carly (Laura Wright’s role), then some think that she should be introduced as a brand new character.

Of course, many General Hospital fans have had a lot to say about the matter on social media. Some even commented with, “The way Gina Tognoni would’ve ATE as Carly when Tamara left. She would’ve been great. She could have really played that balance between Carly’s impulsive, first, messy side and the software more mature person she became.”

Another critic wrote, “Loved Gina. Hated they took MS back at Y&R and forced Gina out, the same way Billy Miller was forced to become Drew so SB could return. However, mentioned when she won the Emmy as Dinah on guiding light in 2006 that she was in consideration for the role but it didn’t work out.”

And while it’s certainly several years since we’ve last seen Gina on the canvas, the actress has not made any comments about whether or not she would be interested in returning to daytime television.
