Apparently, Michelle Obama tried to help out Melania Trump back in 2016 when she first stepped into her role as the First Lady of the United States, but Melania refused to listen to her. That, or she just politely declined. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Michelle Obama says that Melania Trump once turned down her offer of help. In her book, Becoming, Michelle says that before she became First Lady, Laura Bush had extended her offer to help when she moved into the White House with former President Barack Obama, and Michelle simply wanted to do the same thing with Michelle. Laura Bush even told her that she was just “a phone call away.”
If that weren’t enough, Michelle also seemed to slight Melania when she gave her a Tiffany & Co. present at The White House as a gift during Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Michelle wrote, “I mean, this is like a state visit, so they tell you that you’re going to do this, they’re going to stand here. Never before do you get this gift, so I’m sort of like OK. … What am I supposed to do with this gift?”
But Melania’s former rep Stephanie Grisham said that her former employer didn’t ask for any help, nor did she want to receive any.
Plus, the two women have not really even seen each other since then. Grisham wrote at the time, “Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way. When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”
So far Melania Trump herself has not made any comments about the matter, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said.
