A tariff here, a tariff there and a tariff everywhere. There’s heavy speculation suggesting Donald Trump might be going just a little too far in his threats over imposing tariffs on other countries who do not comply with his demands. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Per the latest reports, President Trump responds to speculation that he will impose tariffs on European Union countries.
When one reporter asked him, “Are you going to impose tariffs on the European Union?,” Trump responded with, “Absolutely.”
Meanwhile, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau retaliated against Trump’s tariffs as he slaps America with 25% on tariffs of $155 billion worth of American goods. He is encouraging Canadians not to travel to the United States as a result.
Of course, the internet certainly does have a lot to say about the matter. Some even commented with, “Trump isn’t mucking around. I like the fact FINALLY America has a President that is Truthful and is saying it as it is! We need more of this, not less.”
Another critic wrote, “Simpler answer. The US will tariff other countries the way they tariff the US. The protectionist EU places enormous barriers to US companies selling in Europe.”
“We will be simpler and more straightforward. The US will tariff the EU until US goods being sold in Germany have the same treatment as goods from France or Italy.”
And then there was this comment as well: “The thing is we’ve been paying tariffs for over a lifetime. We didn’t care after WW2.”
“Marshall plan, tariffs and that kind of stuff that Europeans imposed upon the United States were all part of rebuilding Europe post WW2. Now the pendulum has swung the other way.”
