President Trump just announced that he will place massive tariffs on Denmark if they don’t immediately relinquish all control of Greenland.
He said, “We need Greenland for national security purposes.”
Per the latest reports, Denmark has announced a large boost in defense spending after Trump said Greenland was an “absolute necessity” for the US. The country said the package was in the “double-digit billion amount,” equal to about $1.5B USD.
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen claims the timing of the announcement is an “irony of fate” and was something that needed to be done for a long time.
Many critics have commented on the matter with, “Jokes on you. Let’s put some counter tariffs to negate this and then some. How does your much needed ozempic drug sound at a 10x higher price?”
“This is never going to happen. Donald Trump is already making big mistakes with Europe.”
Another critic wrote, “Thing is there are only 58,000 people on the ice. I’m assuming this is pretty important or he wouldn’t be making it a priority. What does he know that we don’t?”
“Either way I can’t see Denmark just rolling over and saying yes to Donald Trump. Not happening at all.”
And then there was this comment as well: “Never going to happen. The Danes have a great affinity with Greenland. Many travel back and forward.”
Trump’s remarks came as his son, Donald Trump Jr, visited Greenland. He said that he was going there for personal reasons and didn’t plan on visting with any local officials.
