According to the latest reports, Caitlin Clark says she has white privilege in her TIME Athlete of the Year piece, and says the WNBA is built on black players. As quoted by TIME, Clark says she earned her success but says she has privilege because she’s white. 

What’s more, Clark says she now wants to help elevate black players. “I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege,” she said in the TIME piece.

“A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them.”

“The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important.”

What’s Next For Caitlin Clark?

She continued, “I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing.”

The internet certainly has had a lot to say about the matter. Some even commented with, “WNBA struggling has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the culture they’ve created around the sport. A culture of hate, racism, and horrible business decisions.”

Another critic wrote, “I don’t support anyone who says this. She’s worked hard. Her skin color had nothing to do with it. She thinks by saying this her team will except her. They won’t. I won’t watch her anymore. Very disappointed she bowed to the woke mob.”

And then there was this comment as well: “I can only speak for myself, but I’d never been interested in the WNBA. When Clark joined the league, it became interesting. I’d watch the videos and see a dominant player. And then I started seeing her being abused by her peers. Now this? I’m simply not interested any more.”
