This was not the way that things were supposed to end. Prince William can’t help but feel absolutely humiliated after he was faced with protestors during the last day of his trip to South Africa. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
The future king of England was in South Africa as part of his Earthshot Awards. A few high-profile stars such as Heidi Klum and Billy Porter joined him for the ‘green’ carpet during the event.
But that didn’t seem to be the problem. Instead, South Africans were just unhappy that he showed up in the first place as they held up signs that said, “Not your sovereignty” and “Not my prince.”
For the Prince of Wales, this is the last thing that he wanted to face during an already miserable and disastrous trip. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled to South Africa in 2019, they didn’t get that same kind of treatment, yet William is being treated like he’s an unwelcomed dictator.
To make things worse, no one even paid attention to the Earthshot Awards. Some critics say that the timing was all wrong as Prince William scheduled the event during the same time as the presidential race in the United States.
Clearly, no one was going to pay attention to Prince William’s event when all eyes were on the race back in America. This was clearly another PR royal disaster. William clearly should have picked another date for the event and he’s now regretting it.
Prince William feels like he just can’t catch a break and the protests made him feel even worse at the end of his trip. He hates that the only attention he got in South Africa was for the protests and not for the actual award ceremony.
So far the Prince of Wales hasn’t made any comments about the controversy, although at this point it’s doubtful that anything will be said.
