It looks like she might have overstepped her boundaries before she even had any boundaries.
There’s a new report that suggests Meghan Markle had triggered the royal family before she was even a member of the monarchy.
That’s because she gave an interview to a magazine and talked about her ‘love story’ with Prince Harry before the couple got engaged in 2017. And apparently, that didn’t sit very well with the royals at the time.
In one pre-wedding interview, the former Hollywood actress said, ““We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time.”
“This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
But according to royal expert Tom Bower, the royals were quite mortified with the interview and upset that Meghan would even talk about Prince Harry without consulting with them first.
It was always a part of the royal family’s protocol to make sure that each and every interview was pre-approved by the palace.
And while Meghan didn’t do that, she wasn’t technically a part of the royal family just yet at the time, either.
In other words, it certainly triggered them in a way that they haven’t been triggered before. And that’s why they just want Meghan to calm down.
Bower said, “Meghan’s unprecedented brazenness took Buckingham Palace by surprise – and electrified the British media.”
“Like a thunderclap, the interview triggered sensational reactions: Meghan had used her relationship with Harry to promote herself.”
“The Hollywoodisation of the royal family had sealed Meghan’s fate as Harry’s fiancée.”
So far Meghan Markle herself has not made any comments about the criticism she’s received. We will update you with all of the latest details once they come in.
