General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal fans are not happy with Perez Hilton’s cameo appearance on the show. “Not Happy” is actually the understatement of the century as they accuse the show of “stunt casting”.
General Hospital really pushed the boundaries of stunt casting this week by bringing in a well-known celebrity for a guest appearance.
Unfortunately, fans of the show were not pleased with this decision and criticized the network for being out of sync with their audience.
The current plotline on GH revolves around a leaked audio recording featuring Port Charles’ newest resident, Natalia Rogers-Ramirez (Eva LaRue), making derogatory remarks about the LGBTQ+ community, including her own daughter.
Alison Rogers aka Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) nearly disowned her mother over the recording which became public, but not so surprisingly, the true antagonist in this situation is not Natalia.
Instead, it was Ava Jerome (Maura West), who released the audio which she recorded on her phone without permission, as a way to retaliate against Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Blaze and Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) were keeping their relationship a secret because Blaze had not revealed her sexuality yet-to make matters worse, they both lost their jobs because of their relationship.
Blaze was dropped from her label and Kristina was dismissed from the leadership of the non-profit she founded for runaway and displaced LGBTQ+ kids. Perez Hilton, a controversial blogger known for sharing juicy celebrity gossip in the early 2000s, was hosting the show as himself.
Despite gaining notoriety for his gossip, Hilton faced backlash for bullying celebrities and prematurely outing their sexuality before they were prepared to come out. In 2014, he released an article suggesting GH actress Kelly Monaco may have dated musician John Mayer at the same time he was in a relationship with pop star Katy Perry.
The GH Twitter account shared a sneak peek of Perez Hilton’s appearance on the soap opera and the response was overwhelmingly negative, with fans criticizing both the storyline and the decision to feature the controversial blogger.
Fans tweeted “Every time I think this show can’t sink lower, it proves me wrong-“ “What is wrong with you guys at #GH?” “Bringing on a trashy misogynist and garbage writing making the homophobe the victim?- So gross-“
“So @GeneralHospital & @ABC are ok with how Perez Hilton has treated LGBTQ+ people like Lauren Jauregui?”- “Perez Hilton is trash and so is this story. NOPE.” “This is a horrible take and to do this with a man who used to out people AND bully a current cast member-this is absolutely disgusting.”
Perez Hilton did receive some support; Kate Mansi, who shared a scene with him, jumped in to back him up in the comments. She mentioned how people often change and urged everyone to show some kindness.

For someone who used to take pleasure in outting people, this was a poor choice. Anderson Cooper or even Andy Cohen would have been better.
