Days of Our Lives spoilers and updates tease Chanel Dupree DiMera (Raven Bowens) tells Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) she wants to keep their baby.

Regardless of what being exposed to radiation might cause, she’s adamant she won’t terminate her pregnancy-but is she prepared for what might lie ahead?

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: They Were Advised The Baby Could Have Birth Defects

Exposure to radiation during pregnancy can have serious health implications for the developing fetus. It can lead to growth restrictions, abnormalities, hindered brain function, and even increase the risk of cancer.

The extent of these consequences varies based on factors such as the amount of radiation, the duration of exposure, and the specific week of pregnancy.

It could be much more serious than just birth defects affecting the baby’s appearance. But Chanel already loves the new life growing inside her and can’t face terminating that life.

DOOL Spoilers: Chanel And Johnny Met With A Specialist

Even after meeting with a specialist to discuss the implications of Chanel’s radiation exposure, thanks to her mother Paulina Price (Jackée Harry) Chanel still wants to keep the baby.

She’s hoping the brief exposure very early in her pregnancy won’t affect their developing fetus, and she continues to cling to that hope.

Of course, throughout her pregnancy there will be specialized tests to make sure the baby is developing like he or she should.

But they won’t be tests like cat scans or MRI that uses radiation-they’ll be standard ultrasounds, which don’t show everything; ultrasounds basically show the organs and the bones.

They can’t show things like brain function although they can show brain development.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: What If The Worst Happens?

The specialist warned that as the baby develops, horrible things could be discovered, things that might cause Johnny and Chanel to have to make difficult decisions.

If the brain or other organs don’t develop properly and this is not conducive to life, they will have to decide whether to have the pregnancy terminated or deal with stillbirth. Chanel couldn’t hear it-it was like she went into instantaneous denial, and who could blame her?

Obviously, they will not tell Paulina what the specialist said and advised; although the time may come when they have to if things don’t go the way they hope.

Paulina already feels guilty and responsible for possible radiation damage to the baby, even though she saved Chanel’s life in that snowstorm; no one knew she was pregnant at the time!
