This is a side of this beautiful blonde that we have certainly never seen before. The Young and the Restless star Eileen Davidson is opening up about her character Ashley Abbott in a way that she’s never opened up before. As many fans of the show are probably aware of by now, Ashley is dealing with Dissociative identity disorder, which is a disorder characterized by the presence of two or more personality states. It’s a mental health condition storyline that Eileen is also proud to take on as she thinks Ashley’s story is one that has to be told. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Eileen says that she first talked to Executive Producer and Head Writer Josh Griffith about the possibility of this storyline back in 2023 when Ashley and Tucker were having problems in their marriage. She said, “He remembered and got really inspired by that. It makes my head hurt because it’s Ashley and then sometimes mid-scene, I’m becoming the alter, so I’m starting off as one and ending up as another.”
That said, it sounds like The Young and the Restless fans will have to buckle their seatbelts for this one. Eileen also says that as the storyline progresses, things are going to get quite intense for her character as she struggles to deal with her mental health disorder. Not only that, but the Abbott family will also stage an intervention. But she also says that this is a storyline that needs to be told. She put it this way, “I told Josh, ‘Please just keep going. This is what I live for.’”
