Stephen Colbert Refuses To Apologize To Kate Middleton

Sorry, but not sorry? Stephen Colbert addressed the jokes he made about Kate Middleton before she revealed that she has cancer. The late night talk show host suggested on his show last week that one of the reasons why the Princess of Wales has been in hiding is possibly because of the supposed affair her husband Prince William had with Rose Hanbury. During his show on Monday night, Stephen said, “For the last six weeks to two months, everybody has been talking about the mystery of Kate Middleton’s disappearance from public life. Two weeks ago, we did some jokes about that mystery. When I made those jokes, that upset some people…even before her diagnosis was revealed.”

Colbert continued, “I can understand that a lot of my jokes have upset people in the past and some of my jokes will upset people in the future, but there’s a standard that I try to hold myself to, and that is I do not make light of somebody else’s tragedy.”

Stephen Colbert Also Didn’t Apologize To Rose Hanbury, Either

But a lot of people have pointed out that Colbert didn’t really say the words ‘I’m sorry’ in his apology. Many even criticized him on social media by saying, “Seems he totally swerved on issuing an apology to her and her husband…coward. It has also been reported that Rose Hanbury issued legal letters to this TV host regarding malicious rumors he stated on his show,” along with, “Too little too late. No apology. Our British Royal family are not celebrities and have nothing to do with the US. US TV hosts and celebrities should butt out.”

Another critic wrote, “He should be canceled for his overbearing, heartless & cruel treatment of the Princess of Wales. To also make jokes about Prince William’s unfounded extra-marital affairs is also beyond appalling. Pity the Waleses as well as Rose Hanbury & her family.”
