General Hospital actor Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) says that he’s in a very different place in his life right now. And that’s certainly a good thing, especially when it comes to his happiness and his mental health. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, the talented actor opened up about being nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards. He told the publication that he is definitely in a much different place now than he was earlier in his career. When asked if he’s ready to do the Daytime Emmy red carpet again, the actor said, “I am, because I’m in a different place now. I’m not like I used to be; I don’t have the nerves like I used to have. I’m very chill, very relaxed. I can talk to anyone. I’m in a totally different place than I’ve been my whole life.”
Maurice also said there’s a lot of things he’s looking forward to about Emmy night. He put it this way, “I’ve always found happiness from getting things, which is a false happiness. When you find peace and happiness within yourself, that’s real happiness. Then you don’t need things to make you happy. What happens when you are just happy with things is that once the thing is done, you go back to the ugliness. So, this is the first Emmy nomination in 30 years where I just feel like a normal person.”
Not only that, but Maurice also said that he’ll be just as happy going home without a statue as he would be with one. He said, “I know what both things feel like now, and this feeling is 20 times better because now, winning or losing, it’s not going to be the be-all and the end-all, and that’s kind of the way it should be.”

I have always loved Maurice as Sonny. I live on a fixed income and to me I'm the riches person in the world. I have love of family, a roof over my head and food to eat can't ask for anything better than that
