General Hospital news say that sometimes you think you know everything there is to know about your favorite daytime television star until you realize there’s just so much more to learn about them.
This time around we are talking about actor Joshua Benard. He might be Maurice Benard’s son, but he’s certainly dealt with a lot of ups and downs over the years, just like his famous father. Here are just a few tragic details about Joshua Benard’s life.
If there’s anything that fans have learned about Maurice Benard over the years, it’s that he’s not afraid to talk about mental health issues, which is one of the many reasons why he began his State of Mind YouTube series.
With his son Joshua on the show, Maurice admitted that he dealt with anxiety and depression during the pandemic. Joshua told his father, “I didn’t believe you. I thought you were strong enough, and you would make it. You didn’t believe that.”
Joshua added, “I have had way worse moments in my life with you than that, but that was worse for you. But I think it is good to show that you are not scared to the other person. Even if you are, I don’t think you should show it.”
The young artist also said that along with his father, he channels his anxiety through his art, or in his case, through his music.
He said, “One of the songs that I wrote called Home, coming out soon, was what I wrote when you were going through that period. A lot of songs that I have that I think are great come from that. When I finish a song, write the last thing, that’s the greatest feeling in the world.”
Joshua also said that writing music was his way of finding peace in his life, especially when his father was going through his bipolar episodes.
He told his dad, “A lot of that type of stuff, even though it wasn’t that traumatic for me, like it was for you, during that period with me, now that I write music.”
Joshua also added that it hasn’t been easy for him to find jobs in the entertainment world, apart from the role that he has on General Hospital.
He admitted, “I try to have a positive outlook with auditioning but auditioning just sucks. I have done like a hundred auditions and gotten only four or five, but that’s not the right way to look at it. I know that.”

I think it’s wonderful that Maurice and Joshua talk so openly and honestly about the struggles, they both had with bipolar disorder. Maurice’s and the effects on his son. I have a daughter with mental illness and at times I feel like it’s gonna kill me! Listening to Mo and Joshua gives me hope.
I didn't know that Maurice Bernard's son was on the show. I really hope there's a story line where the two get together for a heart to heart about their mental illness and Sonny is able to help his step daughters classmate which would show Joss that her step father really is a nice guy.
