There’s a viral video of a clip from a 1983 episode of The Young and the Restless in which Lauren tries to embarrass and fat shame Traci at a pool party.
The moment is getting a lot of comments on social media for how actress Beth Maitland handled the scene like a true professional. Here’s what you need to know.
In the clip, Lauren and a friend are fat-shaming Traci when she arrives at a pool party wearing a one-piece bathing suit. Lauren tries to put Traci in the spotlight and when she does, Danny comes over and tries to make her feel comfortable by telling her that she looks great.
But when Danny asks Traci how much weight she’s lost, she says 15 pounds and adds that it’s not a lot, but it’s a start for her. Lauren then went on to announce that she was engaged to Danny. The scene is definitely a powerful one to watch. The clip can be viewed here.
It goes without saying that many The Young and the Restless fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the matter, with many of them praising Beth Maitland for her effortless acting.
Some even commented with, “That was actually a nice group of kids, lol. Poor Tracy, so nervous about explaining herself.
She looked just fine. She looked beautiful,” along with, “I loved Traci so so much… she always got short end of stick just because she was thicker than the rest… Traci was not obese fat… just thick. This was realism though. Soaps used to tell good young adult stories like this in 80 & 90s.”
Another The Young and the Restless fan wrote, “Traci was brave to go to the party knowing mean girls like Lauren would be there. So happy Danny stood up for her and so did many others. Bullies suck.
Thank God these characters have grown over the last few decades cause they were the original mean girls.”
