The Young and the Restless writers are being slammed for a supposedly ‘grossly irresponsible’ Victor Newman storyline. That’s because Victor’s children, Nick Newman and Victoria Newman, are concerned that he might have dementia. However, there’s some speculation that suggests Victor might be faking his illness just so he could trick his kids and that his wife Nikki Newman is on it as well. Here’s what you need to know.

According to the latest The Young and the Restless teaser trailer, it appears as though Victor Newman has dementia. Nick tells his sister that their father is fading away faster than he would have ever imagined while Victoria says it’s worse than she thought. Nikki, meanwhile, looks at them in disbelief as she can’t explain what’s happening to her husband, either.

And while this storyline does have some people on the edge of their seats other critics think this might have gone too far. While other soaps such as General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful highlight the importance of making people aware of certain illnesses and social issues and topics, The Young and the Restless is doing the opposite. Having someone Victor’s age ‘fake’ his illness is not only wrong, but it’s also downright cruel as he is playing yet another game with his children. Fans can only imagine how Nick and Victoria will feel when they find out that Victor has been fooling them this entire time.
