The Young and the Restless spoilers document that Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) felt backed into a corner. She owed a life insurance company two million dollars because she faked her murder and Jeremy Stark (James Hyde) collected on it.

Viewers recall that Jeremy also stole approximately half of Phyllis’ life savings. So, even though she realized a tidy profit when selling her signature comeback vehicle, The Grand Phoenix Hotel, to Chancellor-Winters, Phyllis did not have enough money to cover her debt.

Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) used his tentacles and determined Phyllis was desperate for cash. Then he manipulated her into making it appear like Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) embezzled from the family business.

Tucker reiterated to Phyllis that he was going to take control of Jabot. His certainty included threatening Summer Newman Abbott’s (Allison Lanier) position at Marchetti.

The fashion division of Jabot would be cut, with Tucker wanting to streamline the cosmetics company, returning it to a focus on business. That comment appears to mean Tucker believes he can seize control from Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and present the company to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) as a peace offering.

An additional comment to Leanna Love (Barbara Crampton), about Tucker and Ashley working things out, implies that St. John’s character believes his efforts represent a path to reconciliation.

Jack sounded the soapy alarm after learning that Ashley remained in Paris, France after her honeymoon with Tucker imploded. Bergman’s character anticipated that Tucker would target him.

Billy is someone Tucker claims that he likes, at least that is what he told Phyllis. His heartless comment was coupled with using Billy’s reputation against him.

But Jack is not as gullible as Tucker believes unless this strike is intended to be thinly veiled as a diversionary tactic.

Phyllis made another devastatingly foolish decision. Now, she is stuck in another legal hole of her making.

Tucker told Phyllis that if she revealed what he did she would go down with him. He would have nothing to lose in that outcome, so her clamming up when Jack offers accusations is no surprise.

But the audience can choose to believe that Phyllis’ resourcefulness will allow her to avoid legal reprisal, make recompense to Billy, and regain Jack’s trust on Y&R.
