General Hospital News: All About Laura Wright’s ‘Shameful’ Divorce

General Hospital’s Carly Corinthos has gone through a lot in Port Charles with her on-again, off-again partner and husband, Sonny Corinthos. They have been through the wringer and despite all of their hardships, Carly has always been someone who has stood by her husband’s side. Well, that all changed once Nina Reeves came into the picture. Carly couldn’t believe that Sonny would be willing to throw it all away for someone like Nina. And yet he did.

For Carly’s portrayer Laura Wright, her on-screen personal life is nowhere near as dramatic as the one that Carly has faced on a day to day basis. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t had her hardships and her heartbreaks. Laura married her husband John Wright back in 1995. They welcomed two children together, John Michael and Lauren. Things were great until Laura realized they weren’t great and the couple pulled the plug on their marriage in 2016. 

Laura admits that her divorce was one of the toughest moments in her life. She said she even turned evil at one point. She told Maurice Benard on State of Mind, “I was gonna force it no matter what to where it was gonna kill me. And it almost did. When I finally let go and stopped running from the pain and witnessed what was happening and accepted it, then it all started to fall into place.”

Laura also admitted that she felt ashamed to be even getting a divorce in the first place. She told Soap Opera Digest in 2017, “I really saw life through different eyes. I’m a totally different person today, as I should be. I was ashamed that I was getting divorced, ashamed that my marriage didn’t work out, ashamed that I didn’t know if I’d ever be wanted again. I had this blanket of shame over me and now, the blanket’s off. I’m proud and happy about who I am — and my flaws! I have them. And guess what? So does everybody else! It makes us human.”

Thankfully, Laura is in a much better place now. She and her ex-husband John are always there for their kids during special occasions and holidays. Their marriage might have not worked out, but the friendship that is between them is still there.
