There’s one side of the story, there is Meghan Markle’s side of the story, and then there is the truth to the story. There’s a new report that suggests that race might have never really played a part in the Duchess of Sussex’s background while she was still a full-time member of the royal family. In fact, one broadcaster suggests that no one really cared about Meghan’s race to begin with. Here’s what you need to know.

While on Piers Morgan’s TalkTV talk show, Broadcaster Sir Trevor Phillips says “race was never really part” of the Duchess’s background. He even put it this way, “Meghan Markle had to learn how to be black on the job.”

Yet, the Duchess of Sussex has said multiple times that race sure did play a part in how she was treated during her time in the UK, both by the press and even by some members of the royal family. Meghan even suggested during her seismic interview with Oprah Winfrey back in 2021 that there were some “major concerns” about the color of her baby’s skin while she was still pregnant in 2019.

Of course, many royal fans and critics alike have had a lot to say about the matter. Some have even commented with, “What absolute nonsense – who is he to say what her experience of growing up black was? My kids grew up in a white middle class area and knew exactly what it was to be black!!  I think she had to learn about British culture on the job- as a woc that was probably a shock,” along with, “Trevor have clearly misrepresented Meghan’s statement  She stated that she was not treated as a black woman until she went to the UK  Her mother said she didn’t discuss race with her but clearly what Meghan was experiencing was due to RACE .”

Meghan herself hasn’t made any recent comments about the matter. Watch this space.
