Separating is never easy, and especially so when you happen to be in the spotlight, too. And if there’s anyone who knows that feeling all too well right now, it’s most definitely The Bold and the Beautiful actor Scott Clifton. Scott, who is best known for his role as Liam Spencer on the hit CBS soap, recently opened up about his separation from his wife Nikki Clifton and how they are currently co-parenting their child, Ford. Speaking to Maurice Benard on his State of Mind podcast, Scott opened up about his divorce for the very first time. Scott said that he and Nikki still have a relationship, but it’s just not a romantic one. He said, “We’re separated, but I think it’s the best decision we ever made. She’s still my best friend.”
He continued, “When we separated, we got to buy another house. Our son just kind of gets to go back and forth between the two. They’re very, very close. Just a five-minute drive from each other.”
Scott also said he and Nikki both knew what was wrong in their marriage and realized a change was needed. He said, “We were just not compatible romantically. We loved differently. It took us way too long to figure that out. But once we did, things got better. It was her who said, ‘I release you. I can’t love you the way that you deserve to be loved, and you can’t love me,’” adding that Nikki’s decision was, “such a kind, rational, compassionate thing for her to do. Our relationship is so good now. At the end of the day, everything you try to do is so that you raise happy or healthy.”
Scott announced his separation back in February. He said in a statement at the time, “My wife Nikki and I have decided to separate. Actually, we have been separated for some time now. She remains my best friend in the world, my partner in crime, and my closest confidant and the decision has only deepened the love and respect we have for one another. Our choice was born of a commitment to one another’s happiness and, above all, giving our son Ford the best life we can. We are grateful for everyone’s support and ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate whatever the future may hold.”
