There are new reports that say Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland were almost in a near catastrophic car crash with the paparazzi in New York City on Tuesday night. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were reportedly chased by a “ring of paparazzi” cars for nearly two hours. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
TMZ reports that Harry and Meghan were chased by the paparazzi soon after the couple attended a glitzy NYC gala where the Duchess of Sussex received an award. After they left, they got into an SUV that was followed by the police, but that’s when the chase began. Thankfully, Harry, Meghan and Doria are all safe.
A spokesperson for the couple said in a statement: “This relentless pursuit, lasting over 2 hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and 2 NYPD officers.”
Royal expert Omid Scobie, who often reports about the Sussexes, added on Twitter, “Despite being confronted by uniformed police multiple times, the paparazzi’s cars continued their pursuit in trying to follow the Sussexes and Doria to the private residence they were staying at. Traffic violations by the drivers include driving on a sidewalk, going through red lights, reversing down a one way street, driving while photographing and illegally blocking a moving vehicle.”
Of course, a lot of royal critics are comparing this situation to that of how Princess Diana died after she was chased by the paparazzi in Paris back in 1997. Some critics commented on Twitter, “Absolutely terrifying and crazy. They want the same thing that happened to Diana to happen to Harry and Meghan. I have absolutely no doubt about that,” along with, “Dear god they are trying to do the them what was done to Diana. The royal cult and the tabloids are up to their ears in this.”
So far Prince Harry and Meghan Markle themselves have not made any comments about the matter. We will update you with all of the latest details as they come in.
