Is there something that we are missing here? A lot of eagle-eyed fans couldn’t help but notice that Prince William looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but at the coronation on Saturday, and especially when it was his turn to pay homage to his father, King Charles. That’s because many people noticed that the Prince of Wales couldn’t even look his father in the eye during that very moment. Here’s what you need to know.
While kneeling in front of King Charles, William said, “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you, and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.” He then bent over and kissed his father on the cheek. But interestingly enough, William never looked at his father at all.
Of course, many royal fans and critics alike sure did have a lot to say about the matter. Some commented with, “Prince William can’t even look his father in the eye. I mean, not him bothering not to memorize this short as hell oath and just reading it with such disdain,” along with, “Omg he can’t even look him in the eye! If that weren’t enough, he couldn’t even memorize the oath he expects others to say to him one day.”
Another critic said, “He required a cue card? He couldn’t memorize that little bitty oath? It looked he was pledging his loyalty to the card, barely looking at his father.”
And then there was this comment, too: “Yep yet some claim William is the happy one, sorry not buying it one of Charles sons look relax and happy but it wasn’t William he looked like a caged animal having to do what is expected of him.”
So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter. But then again, it’s not like Prince William is expected to do anything else as his job is already done. Watch this space as we have a feeling there is so much more to come.
