This might not go over so well with a lot of people out there. There’s a new report that says the British public is being asked to swear their allegiance to King Charles on his coronation day. Apparently, the pledge is among a few different changes that will happen during the service, which will also incorporate female clergy and other faiths. According to the BBC, the public will be given an “active” role in the coronation for the very first time in the monarchy’s history. People from around the world are being asked to wear their allegiance to King Charles. The order of service will read: “All who so desire, in the Abbey, and elsewhere, say together: I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.”
Soon after that, the Archbishop of Canterbury will then proclaim “God save the King.” The audience (and anyone else who is watching from the comfort of their own homes) will then be asked to say: “God save King Charles. Long live King Charles. May the King live forever.”
It will be interesting to see just how many people will pledge their allegiance to King Charles, right?
Needless to say, the internet sure did have a lot to say about the matter. Some royal fans and critics alike commented on Twitter with, “How out of touch do you have to be to realize that even monarchists are barely putting up with him being king? Swearing allegiance? Not a hope,” along with, “Waiting for everyone to get their knickers in a twist because they are ‘invited’ to swear allegiance; it’s a personal choice not a royal command.”
Another critic wrote, “If Charles had consulted a psychologist when planning the coronation, he might have avoided this colossal blunder. As it is, the event is beginning to look like the world’s most expensive selfie.”
