Yikes. It seems as though the King of England is having a hard time winning over new fans lately. Royal Family News says that King Charles was met with “not my king” protests while he and Camilla Parker Bowles were in Liverpool this week. Keep reading below for everything you need to know.
According to reports, a large group of people were spotted in Liverpool chanting “not my king” right in front of the King of England at an anti-monarchy protest. But of course, this isn’t the first time that King Charles’ royal engagement has been interrupted by protestors. It happened in London earlier this month and back in March, too. Apparently, Westminster Abbey will be seeing some of the biggest anti-monarchy protests during the royal coronation. Republic activists will wear yellow T-shirts and wave yellow placards so even King Charles can see them.
Of course, many royal fans and critics alike sure did have a lot to say about the matter on social media. Some have commented with, “Charles is going to die in a palace, as either a king responsible for the downfall of the royal family, or at best, the king that came after the last great queen whose name everyone remembers only because he was the one married to Diana and left her for Queen—who? Camilla?” along with, “Nah, he won’t be meeting his end that way. We have come too far to go back to that. I foresee many glorious years of eggs and tampons being thrown at him. And even more years of boos and cries to Abolish. Without the Queen and now the reverberation from her death gone, they’ve become a liability at this point. Who wants to be associated with Charles and Camilla? No one does.”
Another critic said, “Ahh the death knells of the monarchy. The sun has set on the British empire. It’s too bad that Charles waited his entire life for this.”
