The Young and the Restless star Bryton James recently opened up about his character Devon Hamilton and his deaf storyline. Here’s what he has to say about it.

The Young and the Restless Star Bryton James Opens Up About Devon’s Deaf Storyline

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Bryton admits that the storyline in which Devon found himself to be deaf was one that he will remember forever and for many good reasons, too. He said, “My favorite storyline was playing when I was deaf. As an actor, you want something thrown at you that’s difficult, and there’s nothing more difficult than experiencing not having a sense. It was just a lot of fun and especially with how long I got to do it for. I had a fan that is deaf actually come up to me and just leave a note on my table when I was out eating one time. The note talked about how they watched the show, and how my portrayal was believable. It meant the world and more than any award or anything else.”

He also said that for future The Young and the Restless storylines, he wouldn’t mind seeing his character go ‘dark.’ He put it this way, “I think I would like to see my character maybe a little dark! Maybe even evil or something. He’s been nice for a long time, and he started with a chip on his shoulder. He has a rough past just because of circumstance. Every actor, I think, wants to have their character go through something that makes them be different and challenges them. So anything that would be challenging or would be something you couldn’t imagine Devon doing. I’d like to do that!”

Now, would he go as dark as Victor Newman? Maybe. Bryton said, “If you’ve ever asked anyone what character they would want to trade places with, everyone’s answer is Victor Newman. It’s because he runs everything, but he can also be very tough and cutthroat. At the same time, he loves his family and he’s respected and loved by everybody else.”
