Another one bites the dust. General Hospital comings and goings say that Charles Shaughnessy is leaving Port Charles! The actor, who is best known for his role as Victor Cassadine on the hit ABC soap, recently revealed that he’s done with this role. Well, at least for now. Here’s what he has to say.
As many General Hospital fans know by now, the character of Victor Cassadine first appeared back in 1981 and has been played by several different actors. But it wasn’t until September 2021 that Charles stepped into the role. The actor said on social media, “I am both honored and humbled! I have been so grateful for such a fun, meaty role and the writers at General Hospital are giving Victor one of the greatest villain send-offs I can remember!”
Back in 2021, the veteran actor did admit that he found Victor Cassadine to be “scary and fascinating” at the same time. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, he said, “It’s really kind of unique to the soap universe that you can do this. That a character will die and be resurrected by different actors. In the soap world, you can take a character that’s been established and put your twist on it, your little spin. It’s a fun character, a complex character to play.”
Charles also said that he sure did his homework about Victor Cassadine before he took on the role. He noted, “Victor is a classic psychopath who can get violent, can get aggressive but a psychopath doesn’t necessarily have to be that. They just have to be master manipulators and have a complete lack of empathy. You don’t have a kind of purely evil character, you just have someone who is entirely about what they want and achieving their goals, with absolutely no compunction, no moral compass. That’s kind of scary… and fascinating!”
We are definitely going to miss seeing Charles as Victor Cassadine on the canvas. Here’s hoping he does come back sooner rather than later!
