There are some General Hospital viewers out there who are slamming Tabyana Ali for her latest comments about Trina and Spencer’s romance. That’s because some fans think that the actress hasn’t done enough of her homework when it comes to interracial couples in the daytime television world. Here’s what you need to know.
Speaking to the Associated Press, Tabyana was asked about Trina and Spencer being an interracial couple in Port Charles. She said, “We’re in 2023 and it should start being like its a thing that happens. Because it’s not an everyday thing that happens or I mean, it’s starting to be, but there’s still hesitation within it, (so) it needs to be told. It’s a story that needs to be represented right.”
Needless to say, a lot of General Hospital fans have taken to social media to remind the actress that the daytime television world has seen plenty of interracial couples and even way before her time. Some of them commented with, “What is she talking about? Interracial couples have been featured on soaps for decades. Even if she did not know the history of interracial couples on soaps, she should at least be able to recognize current couples like TJ and Molly. And that’s not even taking into account the various interracial couples on the other soaps. Trina and Spencer are not a groundbreaking couple.”
Another critic wrote, “That was my first thought…. what does she think TJ and Molly are? And they’re on her own damn show!” along with, “There were plenty of black and white couples after Tom & Simone: Keesha and Jason, Keesha and AJ, Justus and Faith, Taggert and Hannah, Ethan and Maya, Epiphany and Milo, Alexis and Shawn and there’s even a current one, TJ and Molly. Valerie also had an affair with Dante.”
That said, Tabyana has not responded to any of the criticism. Of course, General Hospital fans will have to tune in for all of the action!
