Love him or hate him, there’s no denying that you simply can’t ignore him. Of course, we are talking about General Hospital’s Sonny Corinthos. And while fans have definitely seen his good side, his bad side, and his downright ugly side over the years, Sonny always manages to rise above all of the drama and pain. In fact, his portrayer Maurice Benard says that one of the reasons why he’s still doing what he does is because he has some undeniable sex appeal. And who can argue with that, right? While on The View, Maurice was asked why there are so many fans who still tune in each and every day to watch General Hospital after all of these years. His answer was a simple one: Sonny Corinthos. The handsome actor explained that when it comes to the soap, General Hospital “gives you everything. It gives you romance, it gives you love, it gives you sex, it gives you gangsters… We’re in people’s lives every day. I’m just so proud of the show.”
When Joy Behar asked, “What is it about these mob guys that women just flock to them?” he answered with, “Women want to fix a man that’s messed up.”
He continued, “Sonny, when I first started, he was really bad. I said if I ever got bored, I’m out. Well, I never got bored. When I decided that I wanted to stay there, I played his pain. I started playing his pain and that’s when people started gravitating towards him. He wasn’t just one-level bad.”
Now, as far as what’s next for Sonny Corinthos and all of your favorite residents of this fictional town of Port Charles remains to be seen. Of course, General Hospital fans will simply have to tune in each and every day to find out what will happen next.
