General Hospital star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) recently opened up about his “unsuccessful” modeling days and how determined he was to make it in the acting world. While Maurice didn’t end up on the runways of Milan and Paris, he did become one of the biggest soap opera stars the world has ever seen. Here’s what he has to say.
Sharing a throwback photo of one of his earlier headshots, the handsome actor wrote on his Instagram account, “I saw this picture and it reminded me of my unsuccessful modeling days when I would’ve done anything to be a male model. Life has a way of slapping you in the face and then giving you a gift. ACTING was the GIFT.”
Interestingly enough, Maurice also tagged his former General Hospital co-star Marcus Coloma, who was forced out of the soap just a month ago. Clearly, he was sending a very special message to him right now. With that said, many of Maurice’s fans and followers commented on his photo with, “Your gift was spreading awareness of normalizing mental health in today’s world. You are always in a beautiful State of Mind. This photo just shows how the outside matches the inside,” along with, “Yes! I’ll never forget you as “Nico” on AMC and I was about 10 at the time. Then when I was 16 – 93’ you made it to GH as Sonny. I’ve loved you since day 1. Don’t ever change and stay the way that you are.”
Maurice’s General Hospital co-star Jon Lindstrom also wrote rather cheekily, “Oh heck, you still could! I see all kinds of ads with decrepit old men selling laxatives and heartburn meds. LET’S DO THIS!”
Should Maurice decide to give acting a break, he could always go back to modeling, right? We have no doubt in our minds that he would be very successful at it a second time around!
