British Royal News says that Prince William and Kate Middleton sure aren’t winning any of their critics over lately. In fact, the hashtag #AbolishTheMonarchy started trending after the Prince and Princess of Wales showed up at a food bank in Windsor this week empty handed. Some people believe that the royal couple would have looked better if they had showed up with some donations. Instead, a lot people think they just showed up for a photo op. Here’s what you need to know.
Of course, many royal fans and critics alike certainly did weigh in on the matter on social media. Some comments have included, “They showed up to a food bank in luxury cars, expensive clothes, 9 photographers, 2 videographers, assistants, security guards, and reporters but not even a can of beans to offer. This was nothing but a disgusting photo op. They don’t care about the poor,” along with, “And the food banks are informed beforehand so they can get ready for their grand arrival to greet them and then they disrupt their day plus the peasants are not allowed as well, total curfew till they leave.Some people are selected beforehand to talk to them, all staged.”
Another critic wrote, “The photo PR stunt revealed how far out of touch Royalty is with the working class. This PR stunt backfired. Before the Coronation there will be more Royal PR photo stunts popping up across Country visiting places that are in the Media headlines, Homeless, Schools, Hospitals. At least Elizabeth II managed to look like she cared, and talked to people a lot. This couple will do the country a favor by finally convincing the majority that they can live without a royal family.”
Buckingham Palace has not commented on any of the criticism.
