It looks like the New York Times is on their side. British Royal News says that an opinion piece by Zeynep Tufecki claims that Prince Harry is absolutely right about all of his complaints about the royal family. That, and he also says that his complaints are legitimate ones that go beyond royal gossip. Here’s what you need to know.
In his memoir Spare and in the multiple interviews that he has given so far, Prince Harry says that the royal family has not once discredited any of the negative or even dangerous media stories that have been made about his wife Meghan Markle. In fact, he’s often called it an “invisible contract” in which members of the royal family and their staff work together with the tabloid media to plant stories in order to receive more favorable ones about them. And so the cycle goes.
Tufecki seems to agree. She writes, “My impression from his memoir is that Harry wants to make a crusade of applying sunlight to corrupt media practices and his family’s participation in them. If he succeeds in fighting the vile forces that he feels contributed to his mother’s death and imperiled his newfound love, he might bring a greater sense of decency in Britain, and maybe even curtail the power of the worst practices in media. Good luck to him.”
Of course, many royal fans and critics alike have taken to Twitter to weigh in on the matter. Some comments have included, “Prince Harry is right. You know what you did & are starting to see what you lost. Apologize to him & his wife, acknowledge what you did, & accept forgiveness. Give Harry what he deserves: a family, not an institution,” along with, “Great piece from @zeynep about how a corrupt British tabloid press colludes w/members of the Royal Family to manipulate the public into focusing on racist and dangerous lies about Harry & Meghan as vital services like the NHS fall apart.”
So far Buckingham Palace has not made one comment about Prince Harry’s book Spare, despite all of the bombshell allegations that have come out of it. And this point, it’s also doubtful that anything will be said as the royal family just wants to move on already. Now, whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will move on from all of the drama remains to be seen, too. Watch this space.
