General Hospital spoilers and updates for Monday, January 23 tease challenges, confrontations and promises for Port Charles residents. Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) challenges Spencer Cassadine, (Nikolas Alexander Chavez) Cameron Webber (William Lipton) confronts Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Heather Webber (Alley Mills) makes comforting promises.
At Sonny’s penthouse, he wants to know if Spencer is up to the challenge after he reveals he’s fighting for the custody of his baby sibling. Sonny’s not so sure, as he challenges Spencer, telling him what he’s saying proves he can’t. Sonny certainly can’t blame Spencer for not wanting another child to be raised by Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and Esmé Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) as a mom defies imagination!
Sonny will want to make sure Spencer is up to fighting his father in court but Spencer has an ally. Sonny will be surprised when Spencer tells him Ava Jerome (Maura West) and he have made amends and teamed up!
There’s bound to be a tense confrontation after Cameron walked in on Joss and Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) having just done the naked nasty in her dorm room. She’s obviously uncomfortable as Cameron buttonholes her, asking if Dex is the reason that he and she broke up. In truth, Josslyn done Cameron wrong by continuing to string him along until she couldn’t fight her passion for Dex any longer. Even Spencer could tell there was something going on between Joss and Dex and he’d confronted her-poor Cam being the last to know!
At GH, Ava and Dr. Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) find they have common ground when she recognizes Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey) from the night she was attacked! Austin had just gotten done examining Ava’s scars from the Hook attack and they were talking about referring her to a plastic surgeon. She’d walked in on Austin confronting Mason for approaching Georgie Spinelli (Lily Fisher) and her brother at the playground, getting ready to push him against the wall.
Ava confronts Mason as well, telling him he was most definitely there, in fact he’d followed her through the woods to the Quartermaine boathouse after she heard him talking to Austin.
Right after Cameron left Kelly’s to hunt down Josslyn, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) also got a shock – her mother, Carolyn Webber (Denise Crosby). Carolyn showed up unexpectedly to make amends, but Elizabeth is likely having none of it. They have an intense conversation in which Carolyn tries to make excuses for what she did, likely referring to Jeff Webber’s (William R. Moses) wanting her to repress Liz’s memories. Carolyn pleads, telling Elizabeth “she loved him” with Elizabeth asking if she loved him more than her.
Nikolas also gets an unexpected visit from his mother, with Laura Collins (Genie Francis) likely interrupting his tense interchange with Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy). Victor had in essence evicted and disenfranchised Nikolas in one fell swoop, handing him Ava’s signed divorce papers including ceding Spoon Island and Wyndemere over to her. Ava played hardball, threatening to turn in Nikolas for pushing Esmé off the parapet presumably to her death with the confession he made to protect her.
Laura asks Nikolas if something just happened, and she’ll be blown away when she finds out what! Victor has a cache of evidence from Esmé’s north tower prison as well to hold against Nikolas.
Yet another mother interacts with her child as Heather makes comforting promises to Esmé at Spring Ridge. Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) will come to Spring Ridge and give Heather a deadline for the information she was supposed to get from Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) as well. Amnesiac Esmé knows Dante and that he’s a cop, and she may have seen him, and Heather tries to allay her fears.
Heather tells her there’s nothing to worry about or ever again, as she’s going to take care of it and her. Esmé may not realize Heather is her mother, but she seems to be a little less suspicious of her.
