British Royal News says that 2022 was the year of all things Meghan Markle – for better or for worse! That really shouldn’t surprise anyone as she made the most headlines out of all the other members of the royal family. Here’s why!
Even though the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan makes the monarchy look like a racist and outdated institution that has strong but also strange ties to the British press, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are glad that they told their story – or at least their side of the story. That, and it seems like they don’t have any regrets about it, either.
For anyone who has watched the first volume of Harry and Meghan, they’ll know that the series talked about Queen Elizabeth’s work to lead the Commonwealth into a new era, although a lot of it did seem a little negative. The series called the Commonwealth a “privileged club of formally colonized nations.”
While at the Ripple of Hope Awards, Meghan said there was a reason why she went public with her mental health challenges. She said, “When you’ve been through anything that’s challenging, and everyone — especially in the past few years with lockdown and Covid, that spike in numbers of people having an experience they might not be voicing — we all need to, when we can, if we feel brave enough, to just speak honestly about your own experience,’ she says. She talks of being ashamed, but not in the way one might hope. ‘Look, I was really ashamed to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he has suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say it, then I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore.”
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace was not big enough for both Kate Middleton and Meghan as Katie Nicholl says in her new book, The New Royals, that the Princess of Wales has done a better job fitting in behind closed palace doors. Unfortunately, the said can’t be said about the Duchess of Sussex, who along with her husband Prince Harry, abrupt pulled the plug on their working relationship with the royal family after just two years.
“Marrying into the royal family may look easy, it may look like a wonderful life of … round-the-clock staff,” Nicholl said. “The reality is, it’s really tough,” the author continued. “We can look back to [Diana], the Princess of Wales, [and] the struggles that she had, the isolation that she felt at a very early stage in her marriage to [Charles], the Prince of Wales.”
