Most Surprising Soap Affair Of 2023: Abby And Devon On The Young and the Restless

The Young and the Restless started the year with Devon Hamilton and Abby Newman Chancellor fighting tooth and nail over custody of Baby Dominic. It looked like these two old friends might never work it out, but by November they worked it out for sure.

The Young and the Restless Really Went There

When Abby (Melissa Ordway) and Devon (Bryton Hames) decided he would be her sperm donor although he was also her ex, they thought that Devon would have very little to do with the baby’s life. Fans even believed Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) would be more attached to the baby she carried for Abby than anyone else. Then, the next thing we knew Devon wanted legal visitation and eventually, shared custody. He even wanted to give Dominic the Winters last name.

Abby and Chance fought him for a while but soon they reluctantly agreed and everyone seemed to be living happily ever after in their own little storylines. Until they weren’t.

Y&R Took Us By Surprise

What was so surprising about this hookup was we didn’t see it coming — or at least we didn’t see it coming so quickly. We knew Abby was having trouble with her marriage to Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) and Devon was once again a friend she could turn to, and figured there would be a slow build, but this affair was anything but slow.

Even when Devon and Abby fell into a kiss, we thought it would end there for the moment, with more stolen kisses to come. But, the next thing we knew, Devon and Abby were doing the deed all over his living room in the type of Genoa City love scene we hadn’t seen in quite a while.

Then, as soap fans would expect, we were waiting for Devon and Abby to do everything to keep this night a secret from their significant others, but Chance and Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) walked right in while Devon and Abby were in post-coital bliss.
