General Hospital Spoilers: Does Esme Really Love Her Baby, or Does She Love That Her Baby Will Love Her?

General Hospital spoilers tease Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) is about to show Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) and Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) just how far she can take her manipulative streak when she plays every angle to convince them both she’s just a girl who is in love with her baby. Esme doesn’t want to leave Port Charles when the baby is born, and she doesn’t want to live far away without her baby either.

She has become attached to the little person she’s growing in her belly, and she has no intention of giving up easily and letting Nikolas put her up in Greece for the rest of her days. That being said, she’s not in a very good position to bargain for much better given that she’s a fugitive from justice. How will Esme find a way out of this pickle she’s in, and what is her real attachment to this baby?

General Hospital Spoilers — Esme Was Abandoned at Birth

Esme’s history is difficult, and her childhood has most certainly spurred a complicated melting pot of emotional disturbances that she’s dealt with in very poor ways. For starters, we know she’s not very keen on dealing with rejection, and she’s pretty insistent that others accept things are her way or the highway.

Esme believes she’s entitled to have whatever she wants, and she doesn’t think it’s just for anyone to get away with taking something that she feels belongs to her. That may stem from the trauma of being given up for adoption and always longing to know her birth parents and understand why they made that choice. Finding her birth father, Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom), may have helped a smidge just knowing he wasn’t aware she even existed, but it hasn’t dampened the pain she feels knowing her birth mother had to have known about her and parted ways with her by choice.

GH Spoilers Hint Her Birth Parents Didn’t Come Through

Esme could have had a happy ending, and that’s likely what most birth mothers hope for their babies to have when they give them up for adoption. However, there was no happy family in sight for Esme. Her adoptive parents were apparently torn apart by a third party, and Esme briefly insinuated an affair or some kind of betrayal by said third party that made sure her family would never be the same again. As her adoptive parents were preparing to divorce one another, they mysteriously died. We’ve yet to discover how that happened or whether Esme was involved. The end result was the same — once again, Esme was left feeling unloved.

General Hospital Spoilers — Esme Finds Love at Wyndemere

On some level, Esme might be thinking this baby is a fresh start for her. She doesn’t know what Nikolas plans to do with her — or to her — after the baby is born, but she doesn’t trust him. Elizabeth keeps reassuring her that Nikolas has nothing sinister in mind, but it wouldn’t be the first time Nurse Baldwin was blind to what Nikolas was really up to, always preferring to see the best in him. However, in recent weeks, Nikolas has shown some affection toward Esme that he hadn’t before.

Figuring out she is not The Hook might have made an impact on him, as is watching Esme’s belly grow knowing that is likely his child. On the other hand, Esme is starting to connect with Elizabeth on a more maternal level that might be filling the void of motherly love she never received. Furthermore, this baby just might be the unconditional love Esme has been longing for, and the baby will have no preconceived notions about his or her mother that get in the way. Could Esme find her happy home on Spoon Island with Nik and Liz, and if she does, will it necessarily be a healthy one? Stay tuned for more General Hospital news and spoilers just ahead to find out.
