We have sad news for the daytime television community. There are new reports that say General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy has passed away at the age of 55. She was best known for her role as Epiphany. Here’s what you need to know.
It was Sonya’s friend Octavia Spencer who announced the news to the world. She didn’t provide any details regarding the cause of her death. She wrote on Instagram, “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!”
As many fans probably know, Sonya began her long run on the ABC soap opera in 2006. She also appeared in TV shows and films such as “Seinfeld,” “Patch Adams,” “Reba,” “Monk,” “Joan of Arcadia,” “CSI,” “Glee,” “Castle” and “Fresh Off The Boat.”
GH exec producer Frank Valentini also wrote on Twitter, “I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her not only as actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans,” he added. “She will be very missed.”
It’s also being reported that before her time on television, Eddy acted on stage, including in a production of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods,” as the Witch.
Our thoughts definitely going out to Sonya’s family and the General Hospital community of fans during this very said time. There’s no doubt that her legacy will live on in Port Charles.
