British Royal News: The Crown Star Olivia Williams Defends Meghan Markle From Her Critics

British Royal News says that there are some people out there who think that Meghan Markle certainly is getting criticized more than her fair share, especially compared to other members of the royal fam. In fact, actress Olivia Williams, who plays Camilla Parker Bowles on the fifth season of The Crown, says that all of the criticism that Meghan has been getting is certainly unjustified and that a lot of it might be deeply rooted in racism. Here’s what she has to say.

Speaking to the Sunday Times in a new interview, puts it this way, “My husband’s African-American — I can’t overlook the race issue. Somewhere in the souls of the people who despise Meghan, I’m afraid I think that’s an issue.”

The actress also added that Meghan probably assumed that the royal family would have protected her from all of the attacks that she had gotten, but was sadly disappointed when it didn’t happen. She also said she had assumed that the royal institution would be just as protective as a film studio is towards their actors.

“When you’re an actor, the studio looks after you and it’s in their interests to keep you safe, but that’s not how it works [in the royal family]. They’re looking after the Crown. They’re not looking after you,” she said.

British Royal News: Olivia Has Met Camilla, Too

Olivia added that while she had met Camilla Parker Bowles in the past, she’s not the kind of monarchist you would think her to be. “I’ve always had a pinko lefty stance on the royal family. I quite like that they were there to represent us but couldn’t really justify it in terms of all men being born equal,” she continued. “But, of course, when I met her I gushed.”

Olivia continued, “When I got the job, lots of people were saying, ‘I don’t get it, I don’t see you as Camilla,’ and I was, like, ‘I feel quite Camillaesque.’ But, anyway, I put the wig on and it’s job done. I could actually go home and the wig could do the work for me.”
