The Young and the Restless star Melissa Claire Egan, who plays Chelsea Newman on the hit CBS soap, is opening up about her most powerful storyline yet. The actress recently took to her Instagram account to express just how grateful she feels for sending out a very important message out to viewers and for being a part of that message, too. Here’s what she has to say.
The Young and the Restless spoilers say that Chelsea’s mental health has taken a toll on her and that she’s at her wit’s end – quite literally. Chelsea’s depression has gotten so bad that those close to her can’t ignore it anymore.
“This storyline has been, and continues to be, one of the most humbling and important experiences of my life,” she expressed on Instagram. “I’m grateful and honored to be able to tell this story, hopefully in a respectful and responsible way. Mental health is so important and depression is something that affects so many, and does not discriminate.”
The Young and the Restless spoilers say that thankfully, her ex Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) managed to get there on time before Chelsea would have taken her own life. It’s a scene that Melissa knows will resonate with a lot of viewers.
“Please know you are loved and not alone,” Egan urged her fans. “If you or anyone you know is in emotional distress or experiencing any thoughts of suicide please call 988 or text SAVE to 741741 to talk to a counselor for free. Or visit save.org.”
Many of her social media fans and followers have commented on her post with, “Thank you Melissa for this post. There are a lot of people out there who need someone to talk to but are just too afraid, ” along with, “I love that this soap tackles powerful storylines from time to time. It’s so important. And kudos to you Melissa for taking this on. You are doing a wonderful job as Chelsea. Love ya girl.”
