Days of Our Lives star Richard Wharton has recently taken over from actor William Utay as the new Dr. Rolf in Salem. And while fans are certainly loving this new face to a very familiar character, Wharton admits that there have been some challenges he’s had to overcome in the role. Here’s what he has to say!
Wharton says that while he managed to ace the audition, he says that he’s still working on his German accent for the character. He said, “That was part of the audition requirement. And it’s something I keep working on. I have done accents in the past. Russian is one I’ve done a lot. So keeping that separate from German has been a little bit of a challenge.”
That said though, Wharton added that so far he’s been enjoying his daytime television role even though he often does primetime and film work. He said, “As an actor, I’m pretty easy in terms of the mediums that I work in. I love doing theater. I did theater for 20 years in Chicago before I moved to L.A. When I got to L.A., I really focused on film and TV. I’ve been lucky enough to do a little bit of everything. I worked on a film for three weeks in Bulgaria [DRAGON STORM]. I’ve worked on bit parts in different TV shows, and now a longer-term bit on a soap is really a great asset to me and a great challenge. It’s a welcome addition to my repertoire.”
What’s more, Wharton has nothing but great things to see about his co-stars. “Stacy [Haiduk, Kristen] has been great. I really love her. Every time I work with her I’m just happy. She feeds you so much and is a pro. It’s a joy to work with her.”
