The Young and the Restless is getting ready to celebrate love again! That’s because Mariah and Tessa are tying the knot! It’s also the daytime television show’s first same-sex wedding. Here’s what you need to know.
Both Camryn Grimes and Tessa Porter feel honored to be a part of such a special storyline. “I feel especially honored to be a part of this moment because I understand the importance of it,” Fairbanks told People. “It’s like the best coffee you could ever have going into a scene because you know what this isn’t just a couple talking, it’s also representing on screen so many people who haven’t really had that opportunity to be themselves, and every time I come to work I am reminded of that.”
Grimes added, “Our relationship has been incredibly supported by the fans so far, and that’s what makes this such a joy. We feel like we get to give this gift back to them, and they get to watch our characters just be happy and in love, and it’s a huge culmination of their relationship’s journey.”
Many The Young and the Restless fans have taken to social media to comment on the matter. Some have said, “It’s been a long time coming and a lot of work from fans to keep this representation going forward. We’re ready to celebrate it now!” along with, “This is SO EXCITING for so many fans that have been following this unique couple for all these years. The outfits look great, the set look great. I’m glad they putting work in this wedding.”
Another fan wrote, “This representation is so meaningful & important. It’s rare for us LGBTQ fans to feel seen or reflected on our screens. Camryn & Cait portray these characters w/ authenticity, care & respect & it has been beautiful to watch this couple develop & grow together. #Teriah”
That said, another fan pointed out: “There have been other same sex wedding before theirs. Bianca and Reese AMC & Lucas and Brad on GH come to mind.”

I don’t like it at all. The whole thing is tacky and unnecessary. Just have a simple ceremony and let it be done.

I didn’t like the wedding at all and I fast forward. I think too much time has been put on that wedding. I’ve been watching Y&R since I was in College and I never remember any wedding being held that long or the episode of the wedding continuing forever. Too much!!!!!
