General Hospital spoilers say that a lot of fans can’t help but wonder: is it time for Sonny Corinthos to go, or should the character be recast with another actor? This comes after Mauirce Benard hinted that he is looking to retire from the daytime television world sooner rather than later. Here’s what you need to know!
Just recently Maurice Benard suggested that he is ready to hang up his boots and call it a day on the set of General Hospital. After all, he’s been on the show for nearly 30 years. This has prompted a lot of fans to wonder if his character Sonny Corinthos is going to get killed off or if he will be recast.
Of course, it didn’t take long at all for both fans and critics to weigh in on the matter. Many of them took to social media to write, “Personally, I think they have ruined the character of Sonny. Since the beyond stupid Nixon Falls story the show has sucked. There is no way the old Sonny would have forgiven Nina for destroying his family, and he would have made her pay. I loathe Sonny and stupid Nina together. In addition, no way Ava would be any kind of friend to Nina after Nina cut Avery out of her stomach. The writers have ruined the show. I fast forward through Sonny/Nina scenes. He should retire, his character isn’t the same, and isn’t worth watching. Cut Nina too. Together they have ruined the show,” along with, “If he wants to retire I fully understand. but instead of possibly killing off his character … why not recast him?”
Another fan wrote, “Sonny could never be recast ! I would hate to see him go and the show would never be the same. Bringing on all these new characters will not save this show . They need good writing for the core characters plain and simple . The producers, directors and “writers “ need to binge watch all the old shows . They need to really know the history and the characters that made the show what it was . Right now it is just a jumbled mess.”

Sonny needs to stay and the writers need to change his story line. I do not like the Nina and Sonny story line and I do not like how Michael is acting. All this hatred and arguing is nonsense! The whole thing is stupid.

I’ve watched for 50+ years. I’ve loved sonny from the beginning. Because even as a mob boss he was loyal to his family and friends. He lived by thst code. And now you’ve cHanged that. You’ve let him look weak. He’s been conned by Nina and instead of choosing to be loyal to his family, he’s a shell of the real sonny. If he leaves I won’t miss him now. Very sad
Amen! I have watched the show since 1965 or so and Sonny is one of my all-time favorite characters. That is, until the Nixon Falls debacle. I have defended Sonny all through the years on social media, even when he did things I didn't like. But this takes it to a whole new level. This watered-down version of Sonny is sickening and Nina is just obnoxious. Both can ride off into the sunset for all I care. They are ruining GH!
i love Maurice he makes the show but i understand if he’s ready to retire.Sonny has definitely changed since Nixon Falls..and not for the good i despise him with Nina no one ever came before his family and he sure didn’t like dishonesty or betrayal he sure would’ve never let Nina get away with it,these writers are not doing a good job i understand change is good sometimes but not with Sonny and Nina maybe if it didn’t happen the way it did.. But Maurice if you retire Happy Retirement And God Bless will truly miss you 💙
I totally agree about the writers and Sonny. I wish he would stay but I too understand about retirement. I would prefer he retire before the writers do anymore damage to his character. The show will not be the same without him. Please get our old writers back or some that write like they did..
Before you leave remarry Carly a d then go on honeymoon .. Come back and check in to hospital for long term treatment.
Do not let sonny leave he is one of my favorites. Nina can go she's caused enough trouble.. I've never like her . I'm upset that Jason is not on the show. When you start loose your best actors the show will no long be the same . I have watched this show for years. Love it ,bring Jason back and keep sonny get rid of nina...
I am with so many GH fans who think this Sonny & Nina storyline is stupid, Sonny would never have forgiven nor believed Nina’s rational for destroying his family. I can’t believe Sonny do not see the snowball affects of Nina’s actions. Who are the writers that don’t understand we the GH fans know none of the characters would behave like that.
If this is the new Sonny, let him go!
I hate what the writers has done to Sonny! He was a strong man, but now she is a reflection of Sonny! Please put him back with Carly and save the show!
