General Hospital news says that the ratings are up in Port Charles, which is always a good thing. In fact, General Hospital seems to be the only soap out of the four daytime television shows that has had consistently good ratings. This has prompted a lot of fans to wonder: are characters like Jason Morgan and Jasper Jacks no longer needed seeing how the show is doing well without them? Here’s what you need to know.
As many fans know by now, both Steve Morgan (ex-Jason Morgan) and Ingo Rademacher (ex-Jasper Jacks) were both let go from General Hospital after they both refused to comply with the ABC network’s vaccine mandate. And while it’s been several months since they’ve been let go and COVID-19 numbers are significantly lower than they were last year, both actors have not been asked back on the show.
That said, there are new reports that say General Hospital’s ratings have been on the up and up, which of course is a good thing. It’s been noted that all of the other three major soaps – which includes The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless and Days of Our Lives – have all been down with the exception of General Hospital. Just to compare, General Hospital averaged about 2.288 million viewers back in 2019, which is only a difference of 171,000 viewers now. Even though many Jason Morgan and Jax fans said they would tune out from the show, that hasn’t happened yet.
With everything going on in Port Charles – including Sonny’s new relationship with Nina, Ava’s problems with Trina, Esme causing issues and Josslyn’s sex tape – does this mean that Jason and Jax are not missed? What do you think? So far both actors have not made any comments about their futures in daytime, however, Steve did say that he was hoping to return to General Hospital when the time was right. Clearly, that time is not right now.

I am still watching GH but waiting patiently for Jason Morgan [Steve] to return to the set. I record this show and watch but skip through Esme and Nina. I realize there has to be controversy to keep the people watching but sometimes it drags on toooo long! Don't want the twin, Wes Ramsey to return. Bringing back dead people in another roll is not to my liking.
You and I are on the same page!! However, after watching GH for over 40 years I’ve finally stopped watching. These recent months like you (I record it too) I’ve been fast forwarding over the Sonny/Nina garbage, Peter and Esme. I’ve really tried to let Esme grow on me thinking OK they need a ‘bad girl’ because it’s been awhile since they’ve had that. But this is just absurd. The writers seem all there being for no consequences for those who need to be punished. Absolutely no consequences for anything Nina has done. In fact they’ve written her just like many of today’s younger generation is …. Entitled, never to blame and always the victim. Sound familiar? Esme is no different, as well as Spencer when he’s around her. Spencer was great once he was being ‘real’ with Trina.
Yeah, I do miss GH and will definitely consider returning if Jason/Steve Burton returns and we get the real Sonny back who loves his family and puts them first and has a backbone.

I did indeed tune out for a bit. Then I learned how to shut off my Nielsen’s Ratings from being counted and began to watch again. The mere fact the the writer of the above article states that GH ratings are up and all the other soaps have had a decline but GH shows pure ignorance. Go do your homework and you’ll see there has been a decline 6 weeks running. No matter how you decide to justify it, the ratings are down and GH ranks #3 of the 4 soaps still on the air. 🤷🏻♀️
I don’t care about Jax but we NEED JASON BACK! The show is so boring without him. Britt needs him. I loved them together!
