The Young and the Restless spoilers say that if there’s anything we’ve learned about life in this fictional town of Genoa City, it’s that almost every storyline revolves around the Newman family or better yet, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and the possibilities of what he may or may not do. And while there’s no doubt that actor Eric Braeden has played a vital role in bringing out both the best and the worst out of Victor Newman, a lot of fans can’t help but wonder just how essential he is to the show today, seeing how ‘new’ characters that have been worth watching and keeping up with. Here’s what you need to know.
In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, Eric revealed that the former producers of The Young and the Restless were thinking of getting rid of Victor Newman altogether, much to the shock of fans everywhere. Speaking about the “old regime” of producers and writers, Eric put it this way, “What they don’t understand is that [Co-Creator/Former Head Writer] Bill Bell was a brilliant man who laid a very sound foundation, and if you want to veer away from that foundation, it will begin to flounder. That’s all I’m going to say.”
Of course, this has prompted a lot of fans to wonder out loud: just how important and how powerful is a man like Victor Newman in 2022? After all, you’ve got many other game changers in town these days, and the villains are just the ones wearing the suits. There have been plenty of female characters that have given Victor a good run for his money over the years. That, and his prodigal son Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) seems to be doing a good job of holding the old Newman fort on his own.
That said, the other ‘Victors’ on daytime television soaps such as Days of Our Lives and General Hospital have come and gone over the years. While Victor Cassadine is back in Port Charles causing mayhem again, Victor Kiriakis has been nowhere to be seen these last several months. Is it really important to have Victor Newman just to have another ‘Victor’ on the show? Share your thoughts with us.

Yes he makes the show
Oh yes! The show wouldn’t be what it is, “which is great,” without Him! Victor Newman is the “Backbone “ of the Young And The Restless.
I agree! Victor makes the show!!
Yes he makes the show. i did not post this reply before
Yes Absolutely 100%
Young and the Restless Would NOT BE Y&R without Victor Newman!!!
If Victor leaves this show then Jack could Mary Mary Nikki and you have a whole new show. I’m just kidding I like Lecter especially when he’s nice. On the line above that’s supposed to be Victor not lecture
Definitely needs Victor. Love his style and demeanor! He is the glue of this crazy family
Yes The Young and the Resless needs Victor Newman. He is the show. No one else like him.
Without Victor, there would be no Y and R. Muss said. Okay
Love Victor.
I've been watching The Young and the Restless from day one there's a few years I never thought because I was working but now I've been watching it for the last 30 years every day since we the VCR or dvd player so I don't miss an episode Victor should stay on the show as long as he can he's the villain or the good guy but you have are you want you want him to play a very good actor love him but now since have his son-in-law trying to take over everything it's been really good probably the best I've ever seen in a long time so tell Victor to keep up the good work
Absolutely is Victor the VITAL FOCAL point of the show and always has been. And many of other characters are loved. I don’t always agree with his tactics and power moves but he always saves his family no matter what the reason with his long earned power . He outsmarts the worst of characters & I love to watch it . Like he’s going to get to bottom of Ashland. He best give it up before Victor gets him to jail . For once I was hoping Victoria found her match in a husband and thrilled she’s done with Billy !!!!
It may take awhile ( but the best is that this soap doesn’t drag on for months of a problem ) it gets solved or disappears before you’re so sick of it you don’t watch it ! I’m sure he thinks to retire after all these years but hope he doesn’t (or not completely)
I love the new Adam by the way . Smart. , not afraid to step up to “help” but reformed not destructive as he was . Doesn’t cross the line but still wins over evil .
Yes, Victor is VITAL . LOVE this handsome man 🌷🌟
Absolutely love Victor. Don't be too quick to eliminate these very good actors and actresses as they are essential to the program.
There’s no Young And the Restless without VICTOR NEWMAN!! He makes the show what it is. Love him
I agree Young and the restless needs Victor Newman. He is the best part of the show
Yes, Victor is definitely a necessary character and central to the existence of Y & R. By no means does he need to go as in real life, there is always a need of an older person to give strength and maturity to any storyline and provide years of experience and living to be an example to the younger ones coming on. Lords knows there is a great need of some better example for the young ones.
Without Victor, NO Young and Restless. They would be totally crazy to get rid of Victor, what an actor, what a super individual. This Soap will definitely go down the drain without Victor. Some people are going to disagree and say that the show would be better without him, but I personally believe, he is the center piece of the Soap.
Yes we need Victor! I love him on the show! Would not be the same without him!
Yes definitely Victor needs to stay with Eric playing the part. Get rid of the writers and keep all of the good actors and actresses.
Victor is the reason the show has survived all these years. Without him it will disappear.
